Tiger Woods, an American professional golfer and 15-time major champion including five Masters titles, was arrested for driving under the influence in Jupiter, Florida, on May 29, 2017.[1][2] Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a vehicle stopped in a traffic lane around 3 a.m. and found Woods asleep at the wheel of his 2015 Mercedes.
Deputies reported Woods showed signs of impairment, failing field sobriety tests. A breath test registered 0.000 for alcohol. Toxicology later confirmed prescription medications including Vicodin, Dilaudid, THC and Xanax in his system. Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving and accepted probation, community service and DUI school.[1][3]
On February 23, 2021, Woods sustained serious leg injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Los Angeles, California. His Genesis SUV struck a median, rolled over and came to rest on its side. The California Highway Patrol cited excessive speed on a downhill curve as the cause, with no evidence of impairment.[4][5] Woods underwent multiple surgeries and was hospitalized for weeks.
Woods has struggled with injuries since his 2019 Masters victory, his 15th major win and first since 2008. In the 17 majors played from the 2019 PGA Championship through the 2024 Open Championship, he has no top-20 finishes, with multiple missed cuts and withdrawals.[6][7]
In 2024, Woods competed in five PGA Tour-sanctioned events: he withdrew from the Genesis Invitational after a first-round 72, finished 60th at the Masters (last among those making the cut), and missed the cut at the PGA Championship, U.S. Open and Open Championship.[6]
Woods is a co-founder of the TGL indoor golf league, which begins its inaugural season on January 7, 2025, at UBS Arena in New York. He captains the Jupiter Links team.[8][9]
