The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired veteran quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick, according to Fox News Digital.[1]
Dalton, 37, spent the past three seasons with the Panthers, primarily serving as backup to Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.[2][3] He started five games in 2024, posting a 1-4 record.[4]
Prior to Carolina, Dalton started nine seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2019, compiling a 70-62-2 regular-season record and leading the team to four consecutive playoff appearances from 2011 to 2014, though without a postseason win.[5]
Following his trade to the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 after the Bengals selected Joe Burrow No. 1 overall, Dalton split the 2021 season between Dallas and the Chicago Bears.[5] He then started 10 games for the New Orleans Saints in 2022, going 4-6.[5]
The move provides a veteran backup option for Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts behind Tanner McKee, who served as the No. 2 last season.[6] The Eagles finished 11-6 in 2023 before a 31-10 divisional-round playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.[7]
